Byron Optometry has been providing quality, compassionate eye care to London residents since 1980. Dr. Susan Buxton and Dr. Alfred Dick formed Byron Optometry in 1992, and the practice has grown into one of the most trusted independent eye-care clinics in the city.

Practice established

Byron Optometry begins providing quality, compassionate eye care to London residents.

Mid-1980s

International work

Future co-founder Dr. Susan Buxton spends four years establishing optical workshops in the Belgian Congo.

1992

Buxton & Dick partnership

Dr. Susan Buxton joins Dr. Alfred Dick to formally form Byron Optometry as it exists today.

2015

Dr. Bohnert partners

Dr. Ryan Bohnert becomes a partner, deepening the team's expertise in myopia control and specialty lenses.

2017

Vision training clinic

Dr. Buxton co-opens the London Vision Training Clinic, focusing on neuro-functional optometry.

Dr. Susan Buxton, OD

Co-founder · Neuro-functional optometry

A graduate of the University of Waterloo School of Optometry, Dr. Buxton joined Dr. Alfred Dick in 1992 to form Byron Optometry. Before that she spent four years in the mid-1980s in the Belgian Congo (now Zaire) establishing optical workshops, training nurses in eye exams, and assisting in cataract and glaucoma surgeries. In 2017 she co-founded the London Vision Training Clinic, where she now focuses on neuro-functional optometry, including traumatic brain injury rehabilitation.

Dr. Ryan Bohnert, OD

Partner · Myopia control & specialty contact lenses

Dr. Bohnert holds a Bachelor's degree in Medical Biophysics from the University of Western Ontario and graduated with honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2009. A partner at Byron Optometry since 2015, he previously served as Clinical Director at London TLC Laser Eye Centre from 2010 to 2012. His special interests include myopia control, specialty contact lenses, and Lyme disease care.

Dr. Shilpa Patil, OD

Associate · Global eye-care missions

Dr. Patil holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Doctor of Optometry (honours) from the University of Waterloo, 2004. An active member of the Canadian and Ontario Associations of Optometrists, she volunteers with the Optometry Examining Board of Canada and has joined international eye-care missions to Nepal, India, Jamaica, Philippines and Peru.

Dr. Jason Hutchinson, OD

Associate · Corneal disease & contact lens fittings

Dr. Hutchinson holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Waterloo and a Doctor of Optometry (honours) from the Illinois College of Optometry. He is board certified to practice in Canada and the United States, with specialised training in corneal disease and contact lens fittings, and is licensed for oral and ocular therapeutics in Ontario.

Dr. Trisha Leis, OD

Associate · Primary care & ocular disease

Dr. Leis holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and a Doctor of Optometry (honours) from the University of Waterloo, 2018. She is a member of the Canadian and Ontario Associations of Optometrists. Her training spans primary care optometry, rural settings and ocular disease management, including a mission trip to Peru.

Dr. Pasquale Vecchio, OD

Associate · Clinical Director, TLC Laser Eye Centre London

Born and raised in London, Dr. Vecchio holds an Honours Bachelor of Medical Science and a Master's degree in Science from Western University, and a Doctor of Optometry (honours) from the University of Waterloo, 2015. He serves as Clinical Optometric Director at TLC Laser Eye Centre London and sits on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Association of Optometrists.

OHIP & insurance

Direct billing, where we can.

Eye exams for children under 19, seniors 65 and over, and patients with certain medical conditions are covered by OHIP. We are happy to discuss what your plan covers and direct-bill where possible. Bring your card and any insurance details to your appointment.
