About the shop

Independent optical.
Same corner since 2012.

Monkey See Optical opened at 1275 Commissioners Rd W in 2012. We've been a neighbourhood frame shop and full-service optical ever since. Independent ownership, in-house optometrist, sixteen frame brands curated by hand.

Inside Monkey See Optical, London Ontario.
Who We Are

A neighbourhood optical, not a chain.

We're the indie shop on the corner of Commissioners Road West. Family-friendly, independently owned, and stocked with the kind of frames you don't find at the mall. Comprehensive eye exams and contact lens fittings happen with our doctor of optometry, in the shop, in the same conversation as the frame styling.

We pick a frame lineup of sixteen brands and we change them with the seasons. Ray-Ban and Oakley sit alongside the hand-painted Ronit Furst line, the rimless-titanium Silhouette, and the Oliver Goldsmith archive. We don't carry every brand under the sun, we carry the ones that fit faces, hold up, and look good on the people who walk in.

What we promise is a conversation, not a sales script. We'll tell you what we see in the exam, why we're recommending the lenses we're recommending, and which frame on the wall actually works for your face. If it costs less than you walked in expecting, even better.

Since 2012

A short history
of one corner shop.

  1. 2012

Monkey See Optical opens on Commissioners Road West. Independent from day one. The frame wall starts at a few dozen pieces.

  2. 2015

The lineup grows. Oliver Goldsmith and Ronit Furst join the shelf alongside Ray-Ban, Oakley, Burberry, Coach, and the rest of the classics.

  3. 2018

Silhouette and Serengeti Eyewear added. Rimless titanium for the office crowd, photochromic sun for the road crowd.

  4. 2022

Ten-year mark. Same corner, same independent ownership, same approach: pick the frame that fits the face, not the kiosk script.

  5. Today

Sixteen frame brands, comprehensive eye exams and contact lens fittings with our optometrist, and a Tuesday-through-Saturday open week.

Our Promise to You and Your Family

Four things we
won't compromise on.

01

Honest about fit, honest about budget

If a frame doesn't suit your face, we'll say so. If a cheaper lens option will work for your script, we'll quote it. We'd rather you come back happy in five years than spend more than you needed to today.

02

Real adjustments, no charge

Bring your glasses in any open day for a tune-up. Nose pads, temple bend, hinge tighten, the small stuff that makes the frame actually sit right. Free, whether you bought them here or not.

03

One conversation, one optometrist

The exam, the findings, and the lens conversation all happen in the same place with people who know your face. Not a kiosk pass-through, not a different staff member each visit.

04

Your family, the next time too

Kids' first exams. Teens picking their first real frames. Parents needing readers. Grandparents on benefits. We see four generations through one shop, that's the point.

Articles

The shop notebook.

From time to time we write short notes on what's new on the wall, what to ask for in your next eye exam, and what to look for in your kid's first pair. Drop in or call the shop and we'll talk you through any of them in person.
