The Practice

Across language. Across culture.

Irving Keith Augustine is a Registered Psychotherapist in private practice, focused on cross-cultural counselling and Marriage and Family Therapy. Sessions are offered in either English or Spanish, depending on which language a client prefers for this kind of work.

Common work in the practice includes cultural-identity questions, migration and family-of-origin stress, couples therapy across cultures, and the ordinary anxiety, grief, and life-transition issues that bring most adults into the room. The practice draws on training as a Marriage and Family Therapist alongside a broader Registered Psychotherapy designation.

What we work on

Three areas of focused practice.

Sessions are 50 minutes for individuals and 60 to 75 for couples and families.

01

Cross-Cultural Counselling

Work that honours the cultures clients carry into the room. Identity, migration, family expectations across countries, language as a lifeline back to one's roots.

02

Sessions in Spanish

Sesiones en español. Una opción para clientes que prefieren trabajar en su lengua materna sobre asuntos íntimos, sin perder matices en la traducción.

03

Marriage and Family Therapy

Registered Marriage and Family Therapist. Sessions can include couples and families, with attention to inter-generational and cross-cultural dynamics.

How the practice works

Three principles, kept simple.

01

MTS, RP, RMFT

Master of Theological Studies, Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, Registered Marriage and Family Therapist.

02

Bilingual practice

Sessions available in English or Spanish. Bilingual practice is rare in southwestern Ontario and especially valuable for clients more comfortable in their first language.

03

Quiet by-appointment work

One client at a time, by appointment only. Phone first, voicemail returned between sessions.
